Dr. Bridget O’Brien, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, AOCNP

President & Co-Founder

Dr. O’Brien Fagan is dual board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner, with over 25 years of clinical experience in GI oncology. She is an Associate Professor and Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Rush University and has published and lectured extensively on topics in oncology, primary care, and advanced practice nursing education.

In addition, she serves as the President and Co-founder of the National Association of Family Nurse Practitioners (NAFNP), the first national organization dedicated to advocating for Family Nurse Practitioners. Through her leadership of NAFNP, she directs advocacy efforts for FNP education standards, full scope of practice, and improved primary care access.  

Dr. O'Brien Fagan founded and chairs the Advanced Practice Provider Committee of ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group, a component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN).  This role focuses on increasing APP involvement in clinical trial research and marks the first formal engagement of APPs in the Cooperative Group setting.

Dr. O'Brien Fagan pioneered the NP role as the first nurse practitioner in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, IL, where she continues her practice to this day.

Dr. O'Brien is an active, long-term member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology, the Illinois Society for Advance Practice Nursing, the Association of Community Cancer Centers, and the Oncology Nursing Society.
