2025 NAFNP Scholarship Excellence Award

The National Association of Family Nurse Practitioners (NAFNP) proudly recognizes FNPs who demonstrate exceptional scholarship through the prestigious NAFNP Scholarship Excellence Award. This honor celebrates individuals whose contributions—such as national conference presentations, published research, successful grant acquisitions, and the integration of evidence-based practices—have significantly advanced the profession and improved patient care and community health.


Eligibility

  • Must be a current member of NAFNP.
  • Demonstrates a sustained commitment to scholarship.
  • Self-nominations are permitted but must include at least one letter of support from colleagues or collaborators.
  • Previous award recipients are ineligible for nomination within two years of receiving the award.

Criteria

Nominations for an NAFNP FNP member should highlight their outstanding contributions in the following areas: effective presentations, impactful publications, successful grant writing, and active participation in research. The nominee should demonstrate their ability to engage audiences, contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their field, secure funding for innovative projects, and remain committed to improving healthcare practices through evidence-based research. Candidates should exhibit a strong track record in most of the following criteria:

  1. Presentations: Contributed to the field by delivering engaging presentations at national conferences, either through podium or poster sessions. These efforts highlight a commitment to sharing knowledge and advancing the practice of nursing. 
  2. Publications: Participated in scholarly endeavors by publishing peer-reviewed articles that share critical research findings, clinical experiences, and innovative practices, thereby enhancing the body of knowledge in nursing. 
  3. Grants: Demonstrated excellence in securing grant funding for projects aimed at improving healthcare outcomes, driving innovation, and advancing research in the field through well-supported initiatives. 
  4. Research: Actively engaged in evidence-based research, contributing to the identification of best practices, the evaluation of patient outcomes, and the integration of innovative strategies into clinical practice to improve health outcomes for patients, families, and communities. 

 Submission Requirements and Guidelines

  • Format: All materials must be submitted electronically in PDF format.
  • Contents:
    • Completed nomination form.
    • A letter of nomination detailing the nominee's achievements and alignment with the award criteria (one page; double-spaced).
    • One letter of support from colleagues, students, or collaborators attesting to the nominee's educational impact.
    • Evidence of innovation, such as publications, curriculum materials, or testimonials.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting academic, educational, and professional contributions. 

Nomination Timeline

  • Call for Nominations: Opens on January 27, 2025.
  • Submission Deadline: March 3, 2025.
  • Review Period: March 4 to March 31, 2025. 
  • Recipient Notification: Recipients will be notified by April 1, 2025, and be recognized at the Denver NAFNP meetup on April 11, 2025.

Award Package

Recipients will:

  • Receive a commemorative plaque recognizing their award.
  • Be featured in the NAFNP newsletter and website.
  • Be invited to present their innovative educational work at an NAFNP meeting.
